My life was forever changed on Oct. 12, 2017 as I held my grandson, Levi Scott Haglund, for the first time. I had been dreaming for months about this day, hearing from friends that there is nothing like it, yet not fully understanding this new relationship until I held him in my arms. I literally gasped for air as I saw this tightly wrapped bundle in the bassinet, seeing this perfect little person who will forever change my life. As I held him and stared at his little features, I was in awe of this miracle; wondering what is to come, delighting in him, and experiencing an unimaginable love. He had done nothing to earn my love, I loved him because he was my grandson! It will be a moment in time that I will never forget. My heart was overflowing, and still is!
God looks at us that way too! He loves us more than we can comprehend. I believe fully that when God looks at you and me, He is in awe with who He’s created. I think we take His breath away! Ephesians 2:10 says that we are His masterpiece, creating us intentionally with thought and purpose. God looks at you with such delight! (Ps. 37:23) His love is a pure, unconditional love, deeper than what I felt holding Levi. We don’t do anything to deserve His love, He loves us because we are His children.
As we enter in to the Christmas season, life can get overwhelming with to-do lists, busy schedules, and often times strained relationships. That can distract us from what God really wants for us experience this season; His love for us through the birth of His Son, Jesus. If that distraction happens, remind yourself of who you are, the precious daughter/son of the King! When we look at God as a father, a whole new perspective opens up. It brings a new depth of love to my relationship with Him, a love that far surpasses human understanding. A love that is not earned or deserved, and stronger than any love you or I can imagine. May you experience a greater depth this Christmas season knowing you are forever loved, cherished, and delighted in by your Heavenly Father, just as you are right now.
